Once again, we are preparing to welcome and celebrate another holiday season. Let’s take this opportunity to revisit a few interesting news of 2008 concerning our favorite sweets.
Chip-Liked Cookies from Nutritious Creations – Good news from Bayshore, New York for cookie lovers with a healthy conscience. Starting 2009, Nutritious Creations will introduce a new line of all-natural, multi-grain cookies. Your choices of flavors are chocolate chip, cinnamon
oatmeal, chocolate fudge and rocky road.
Introducing Tim Tam Cookies – The most popular Australian chocolate biscuit, Tim Tam, is now in a Target store near you from November 2008 through March 2009. Pepperidge Farm, Inc. of Norwalk, Connecticut introduced these cookies in two flavors, chocolate crème and caramel.
Certified Gluten-Free Chia Seed Flour – This alternative to wheat flour is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, calcium, fiber, antioxidants. Chia seeds, as you know, grow hair on funny chia pets. Processed by Nuchia Foods Corp. of Orlando, Florida, this flour is certified gluten-free and can replace wheat flour one-to-one.
Stevia-Based Sweetener from Cargill of Wayzata, Minnesota. Hopefully sometimes during 2009, the Food and Drug Administration will approve, for use in foods and beverages, this zero-calorie sweetener. It is 200 times sweeter than sugar, according to its manufacturer, and made from the rebiana part of stevia leaf.
Shortbreads by Caroline’s Desserts – Overwhelming consumer response during an annual charity fundraiser encouraged Carolina’s Desserts of Redmond, Washington to roll out its all-natural, kosher line of gourmet shortbreads. They are available in a variety of flavors including cranberry, chocolate chip espresso, maple walnut, chocolate dipped traditional, ginger, chocolate spice and orange pecan.
