Chocolate Sugar Cookies
Chocolate sugar cookies are irresistible on their own, without any mix-ins or frosting. The melted vegetable shortening or unsalted butter gives them a pleasantly unbeatable texture.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
Mix butter and sugar on medium-high speed until pale and fluffy. Mix in melted shortening or butter. Add egg and vanilla extract. Continue mixing until creamy.
Gradually add flour mixture and mix on low speed until just combined.
Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
Bake for about 18 – 20 minutes or until edges are firm. Let cookies cool on sheets on wire racks. Store chocolate sugar cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
