Czechoslovakia Walnut Cookies
Walnut cookies are traditional Christmas sweet in Czechoslovakia, but why wait for the holiday when they are so easy to make.
Unsalted butter, softened |
1 cup or 2 sticks

Sugar |
¾ cup

Egg yolks |
2 large
|
Unbleached all purpose flour |
2 cups
|
A pinch of salt
|
Walnuts, chopped |
1 cup
|
Strawberry preserves |
½ cup
|
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and grease a 9-inch square baking pan.
Cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add egg yolks, flour, and salt. Combine well after each addition.
Finally, stir in chopped walnuts.
Pack half of dough into the prepared baking pan. Spread strawberry preserves over it.
Pinch off small pieces from remaining dough and scatter them over preserves.
Bake for 40 – 45 minutes, until golden. Cool walnut cookies completely in baking pan on a wire rack before cutting into your preferred size and shape.
